Peak UK Chart Position: #14 in April 1994.
On BBC Radio 2’s Pick Of The Pops yesterday, this week in 1987 was featured, and “It’s A Sin” was on its second week at number one. That track hit the top almost eighteen months after their first did, in “West End Girls”.
Vocalist Neil Tennant – who turns 62 (!) today – was an editor of both Marvel (Comics) UK and Smash Hits back in the day, as well as editing “The Dairy Book Of Home Management”, a book that I grew up with on the bookshelf, and something my mother often referred to for household related stuff!
This track is taken from the album “Very”, their only UK number one album to date. It is just one of their forty top 20 singles, with Neil Tennant also featuring on two hit singles by Electronic (together with Bernard Sumner and Johnny Marr), plus joining Neil Hannon (Divine Comedy) on backing vocals for Robbie Williams’ “No Regrets”.
A brilliant live vocal performance above, although Tennant claimed he was out of breath at the start due to having to run from the dressing rooms to be on stage in time. Also look out for an audience cameo from a fresh-faced duo of David Walliams and Matt Lucas…
