Peak UK Chart Position: #2 in February 1985.

On the birthday list today:

  • Oli Sykes, lead singer of Bring Me The Horizon (“Drown” UK #17 in 2014) is 30 today.
  • Kimberley Walsh, (four UK number ones with Girls Aloud including “Sound Of The Underground” and “The Promise”, plus “Like U Like” with Aggro Santos UK #8 in 2011) is 35 today.
  • Q-Tip, born Jonathan Davis, American rapper/producer/DJ (“Breathe And Stop” UK #12 in 1999, featured on Deee-Lite “Groove Is In The Heart” UK #2 in 1990, plus “Can I Kick It” [as member of A Tribe Called Quest] UK #15 in 1991) turns 46 today.

And lastly, Galway-born Paul King turns 56 today. As leader of the conveniently-named band King, he scored five top thirty hits and two top twenty albums in the space of just a couple of years. After a brief failed solo career, he became one of the most recognisable faces on satellite music television – starting out as a VJ with MTV and then subsequently moving to VH-1.

Here, you can enjoy a fully live performance on Channel 4’s The Tube, with Paul wearing a most excellent suit. To be fair, it is well worth watching this just for a general snapshot of fashion in the mid eighties.
