Peak UK Chart Position: #16 in April 2000.
Today’s birthdays include:
- Serge Pizzorno, Newton Abbot-born guitarist/vocalist/songwriter (with Kasabian: “Fire” UK #3 in 2009, “Cutt Off” UK #8 in 2005) is 36 today.
- Dave Clark, North London-born musician/songwriter/record producer/entrepreneur (as leader of Dave Clark Five: “Glad All Over” UK #1 in 1963, “Bits And Pieces” UK #2 in 1964) turns 74 today.
We normally feature four birthdays, and today is no exception: the twins Edele and Keavy Lynch from B*Witched turn 37 today. Together with Lyndsay Armaou and Sinéad O’Carroll, they made catchy and fun pop music, mixing in the occasional Irish influence, with heavy emphasis on double denim. They were the first act to see their first four releases debut at number one: “C’est La Vie”, “Rollercoaster”, “To You I Belong”, and “Blame It On The Weatherman”.
“Jump Down” was their final chart success; they were dropped by their record company in 2002 during the making of their third album and eventually disbanded – although reunited ten years later for ITV2’s ‘The Big Reunion’, and subsequently toured (they’ll be joined by Liberty X in Australia and New Zealand in February 2017). I have to be honest and say that I’ve never heard them sing live before, so this performance on Top of the Pops on April 7th 2000 is new to me. A very good performance it is too…
