Peak UK Chart Position: #17 in February 1986.
On the birthday list today:
- Dionne Warwick, born Marie Dionne Warrick, American singer/actress/presenter (“Heartbreaker” UK #2/US #10 in 1982, “Do You Know The Way To San Jose?” UK #8/US #10 in 1968) is 76 today.
- Claudia Brücken, German singer (as vocalist with Propaganda: “Duel” UK #21 in 1985, “Dr Mabuse” UK #27 in 1984) turns 53 today.
- Daniel O’Donnell, Irish singer/television presenter/philanthropist (“Give A Little Love” UK #7, “The Magic Is There” UK #16, both in 1998) is 55 today.
And lastly, the man known as Belouis Some, real name Neville Keighley, turns 57 today. He scored just two top forty hits in the UK in the 1980’s, “Some People” and “Imagination” (on re-issue), and also supplied “Round, Round” for the soundtrack album of the film “Pretty In Pink”.
“Imagination” was re-issued following his stint as support on Frankie Goes To Hollywood’s UK tour in 1985, and sparked some controversy with a video of the extended version of the track which contains full-frontal nudity (something I vaguely recall VH-1 showing late at night some years ago). However, you’ll have to search YouTube for that, as it is their Top of the Pops performance featured here today, Also on the bill for this show that this opened were Latin Quarter, Shakin’ Stevens, and Billy Ocean at number one with “When The Going Gets Tough”.
