The bubble somewhat burst on The Fred’s chart fortunes pretty quickly – their first three hits peaked at 2 (“I’m Too Sexy”), 3 (“Don’t Talk Just Kiss”), and 1 (“Deeply Dippy”), before the double-A sided “Daydream” and “Those Simple Things” faltered at 29.
This was the first single from their second album “Sex And Travel”, which makes it all the more bewildering as to why it was such a flop.
However, the band have worldwide sales of over 20 million records. Lead singer Richard Fairbrass turns 63 (!) in September, and is noted on Wikipedia (at time of press) as being a “body double for Richard O’brian (sic)”. I’ll let you decide on the veracity of that…
