In her career, Reading-born Kate Winslet has picked up an Academy Award, an Emmy Award, four Golden Globe Awards, a Grammy Award, a BIFA Award, an AACTA Award, and three BAFTA Awards – but failed to pick up the cherished Christmas number one crown. “What If” appears on the animated film “Christmas Carol: The Movie”, in which she voices the character Belle, with Nicolas Cage, Jane Horrocks and Simon Callow also featuring.
- The song did manage to top the charts in Belgium, Austria, and Ireland – where it entered at number one on December 7th (toppling Dustin the Turkey’s version of “Sweet Caroline”), and stayed there for four weeks.
- Another actress managed to have far better success on the Christmas chart that year; Nicole Kidman featured with Robbie Williams on “Somethin’ Stupid” and took the prized top spot.
- As of September 2016, Winslet’s films have grossed US$3.9 billion worldwide.
- At Winslet’s request, proceeds from the single were given to the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children and Sargent Cancer Care for Children.
