Peak UK chart position: #2 in April 1976.
From the days where every release seemed to be on the Pye record label, from an album with only six (count ’em) tracks on it, from an album where – unusually – Barry touches on the downside to relationships.
“You See The Trouble With Me” – and this epic performance in particular (in which Barry pretty much says hello to everyone in the audience individually whilst still performing in his inimitable manner) – was the basis of the 2000 dance hit by Black Legend. There was an actual bootleg copy featuring the Barry White samples, but these weren’t cleared for release – instead using vocalist Elroy ‘Spoonface’ Powell to re-sing it.
Here’s the legend in action.
The album “Let The Music Play” is still in my collection – on vinyl – sadly bereft of its original sleeve which fell apart many years ago.
