Peak UK Chart Position: #17 in November 2009.
Born in Paisley, Scotland, to an Irish father and Scottish mother, Paolo Nutini got his lucky break in 2003, performing a couple of songs as stand in for a delayed David Sneddon at a local radio station’s roadshow – thanks to winning an impromptu pop quiz.
He has three top three albums to his name, with his 2006 debut “These Streets” spending over three years on the album chart, selling over 1.5 million copies in the process. Follow-up – and first chart topper – “Sunny Side Up”, exceeded this and to date has shifted 1.8 million units.
His debut single remains his biggest; “Last Request” in 2006 peaking at number five. He has spent much of 2016 on hiatus, but has announced that he will headline the ‘Concert in the Gardens’, part of Edinburgh’s giant Hogmanay street party, on New Year’s Eve 2016. Jools’ Annual Hootenanny has played host to him on several occasions, and here is “Pencil Full Of Lead” from 2009’s show, which was an eleven place climber to number 17 on this day that same year.
