Birthdays in the pop world today include:
- Taja Sevelle – born Nancy Richardson, Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States – singer/songwriter/musician, is 55 today (“Love Is Contagious” UK #7, “Wouldn’t You Love To Love Me” UK #59, both in 1988)
- Mike McGear – born Peter Michael McCartney, Liverpool, England – musician/photographer, brother of Paul McCartney, turns 73 today (as member of The Scaffold: “Lily The Pink” UK #1, “Thank U Very Much” UK #4, both 1968; solo: “Leave It” UK #36 in 1974)

Finally for today, Kenny Loggins – born in Washington, United States – singer/songwriter/guitarist, turns 69 today. Best known for his movie soundtrack successes, and a substantially bigger name in his native America compared to Britain; twenty-one Billboard Hot 100 hits compared to just two making the UK top 75. He co-wrote the song “What A Fool Believes” with Michael McDonald, which went on to be a big success for the Doobie Brothers. “Footloose” – from the movie of the same name – was an American, Canadian, New Zealand and Australian chart-topper, and a UK number six hit in 1984.
“Top Gun” was the movie to spawn “Danger Zone”, a track composed by famed producer Giorgio Moroder. Loggins wasn’t the original choice for performer, with the likes of Toto, Bryan Adams, REO Speedwagon, and Corey Hart turning down involvement. This performance is taken from last July, where he performed both “Danger Zone” and “Footloose” for ABC’s ‘Greatest Hits’.
